      Come experience the magic of the season with Waist to Chest | Christmas Surf Spectacular, a fun-filled musical extravaganza, brought to you by some of the members of the popular band Girlfriend Material, with added guests! Browse through a fantastic array of holiday themed vendors, perfect for finding that special gift, and enjoy lots of spectacular art! Stop by Bailey Contemporary Arts Center (BaCa) to meet this month’s featured artist in residence Renee Ray and see her other-worldly art. Catch the exhibition Roots of an Identity, a varied collection in diverse media, curated by Latin American Arts Pavilion on its last viewing day!

Old Town Untapped takes place on the first Friday of the month from 6 – 10 p.m., and is free for all ages to attend. The lively street festival happens in the heart of Downtown Pompano, near Bailey Contemporary Arts Center (BaCA). Learn more at www.pompanobeacharts.org.

BaCA AiR Featured Artist: Renee Rey     

Renée Rey’s art reflects a vision for an inclusive, just, and healthy world. In both large and intimately scaled paintings, mixed media, and assemblage artwork, she creates fantastic ecospheres that celebrate connection and kinship among diverse people, cultures, nature, and technologies. Born in Japan, and now residing in South Florida, Rey’s artwork has been selected for national awards and exhibitions by art professionals, museum curators, and gallerists. Rey’s work has been featured at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, AK; Bob Rauschenberg Gallery at Florida Southwestern State College, Fort Myers, FL; Tucson Museum of Art, Tucson, AZ; Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA, and Cornell Fine Arts Museum, Orlando, FL.

Rey was invited to the School of Visual Arts Summer Painting Residency, New York, NY in 2019 and Sun Peak Center for Art and Sustainability, Colorado Springs, CO in 2016. The artist has studied drawing, painting, 3Ddesign, film, performance art, computer art and art history on the undergraduate and graduate levels in New York and Florida.

BaCA: Art Exhibition | Roots of an Identity

Last chance to view this thoughtful exhibition! Curated by the Latin American Arts Pavilion, it aims to showcase the significance of Latin roots, culture, and customs. The collection demonstrates the importance of embracing and recognizing the fundamental components of Latin American identity, which fosters a sense of pride, security, and well-being in preserving and promoting the distinctiveness of Latin heritage. The artworks explore a wide range of themes, including family, community, religion, history, and politics. Featuring a variety of artistic styles and mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, and video.About the City of Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department

The mission of the Cultural Affairs Department is to provide cultural programming that includes visual artsdigital media, music, film, theater, dance and public art for the enjoyment and enrichment of residents and visitors to Pompano Beach, Broward County, and the greater South Florida area. The department programs and manages the City’s premiere cultural arts venues including the Pompano Beach Cultural Center, Ali Cultural Arts Center, Bailey Contemporary Arts Center, and the Blanche Ely House Museum. The department also oversees the City’s Public Art Program and the prestigious National Endowment for the Arts’ Our Town grant awarded to the Pompano Beach Crossroads place-making arts initiative.
