Celebrating The Birth of Hip Hop on Saturday, Aug. 15th 7 pm
The Joseph Caleb Auditorium’s Caleb Around Town – Black Birth Music Series presents The Infancy of Hip Hop Throwdown, a dynamic concert featuring Zedric Bembry’s Live in Color Dance Company. The event celebrates the birth and evolution of Hip Hop on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 7 PM at the Sandrell Rivers Theater, 6103 NW 7th Avenue, Miami, FL 33127.
The Caleb Around Town performance series is an outreach initiative designed to inform Miami Dade County residents about the upcoming reopening of the Joseph Caleb Auditorium, highlighting the local music and dance acts that will soon grace its stage. The Black Birth Music Series’ Infancy of Hip Hop Throwdown showcases some of Miami’s finest talent, including the acclaimed Live in Color Dance Company led by Zedric Bembry, a spectacular spoken word performance by poetess Rebecca “Phoenix” Vaughns, and appearances by Latin Grammy nominated international recording artist and actor Sito Rocks and Latin/Hip Hop artist Havana Mena.
Teddy Harrell, Jr., Theater Director of the Joseph Caleb Auditorium, shared: “The Caleb Around Town – Black Birth Music Series: The Infancy of Hip Hop Throwdown will be an eye poppin’, foot stompin’, sing along celebration honoring Hip Hop and Rap—an event for audiences of all ages.”

Part of the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the historic Joseph Caleb Auditorium—founded in 1977 and located in Liberty City — a 1,000-seat performing arts auditorium and community hub. It hosts concerts, theater, dance, and community forums that celebrate African American culture and local artistic excellence.
