NATIONWIDE — Troy and Charletta Green, a married couple from Detroit, Michigan, sadly died of COVID-19 within hours after the other. Their 7 children are grieving their tragic loss.

The two, who were both 44-years old, reportedly planned a family trip to Florida in August. Troy stayed behind since he wasn’t feeling well. Charletta went on the trip but was hospitalized due to COVID-19 just two days after arriving in Florida.

The day after that, Troy was also taken to the hospital. They were both put on ventilators in the ICU. Troy was slightly recovering while Charletta’s condition worsened.

“Her lungs were severely damaged and … they just couldn’t do any more for her,” Tiki Green, Troy’s sister, told Fox 2 Detroit. “When he realized that his wife, you know, maybe not a ventilator and she’s on it 100 percent constantly; he just basically couldn’t take that. He just started having chest pains and eventually a couple of hours later he passed.”

Charletta died on September 6. Troy died the next day, just 8 hours after his wife died.

“We just always knew they were coming home,” Green said. “So, for neither of them to come home, words can’t explain how we feel right now.”

Green said the couple was infected with COVID-19 before they could decide to get vaccinated.

“I mean, I know it doesn’t prevent you from contracting it in general, but I feel like you’ll have a fighting chance at least,” she said. “So, I’m like stressing to everybody in my family, (they have to) be vaccinated because I can’t do this again. Covid is taking too many people.”

The couple, who has been together since they were 14-years old and married for 22 years, left behind their 7 children between the ages of 10 and 23.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page was set up to help their family with the double funeral costs of more than $26,000.
