Davie, FL – The Miami Dolphins hosted the team’s annual Girls High School Flag Football Clinic presented by UnderArmour at the Doctors Hospital Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University. The event featured 16 high school teams throughout South Florida that participated in a series interactive football drills.
“The participation was probably double of where we were last year,” said Rocky Gillis, County Athletic Director at BCAA. “The girls love the interaction with the alumni players and I just think it’s a great event. Being in the Dolphins bubble was an experience of a life time for the girls.”
At the clinic, Miami Dolphins Director of Youth Programs Twan Russell and other former NFL players spoke to the girls about the importance of academics and making choices that will have a positive impact on their future.
“The participation from the girls was excellent,” said Russell. “You could tell that they really got a lot out of this event.”
After the speeches, nearly 300 girls took part in a variety of stations, taught by the alumni players. The drills emphasized fundamental football skills such as throwing, catching and stances.
The clinic is the first event of a two-part series. The Girls Flag Football Jamboree presented by UnderArmour, featuring 28 teams, will be the follow up event, held on March 9 at the team’s indoor training facility.
