MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins were awarded defensive back Brandon McDonald (from Tampa Bay) off waivers, the team announced. The team also placed defensive back Richard Marshall on Reserve/Injured List.
The 5-11, 185-pound McDonald joins Miami after spending the first nine weeks of the 2012 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he saw action in eight games with two starts and recording 20 tackles and one interception. McDonald entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft selection (140th overall) by the Cleveland Browns in the 2007 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 77 career games with 31 starts as a member of the Browns, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions and Buccaneers. Over the course of his six year career he had recorded 174 tackles, nine interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one sack.
McDonald played two seasons at the University of Memphis (2005-06) after attending Jones County Junior College (Ellisville, MS.). He started 23 of 24 games played at Memphis, and totaled 133 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, 15 pass breakups, and seven interceptions. He also returned 46 punts which ranks seventh in team history and his 305 punt return yards rank 10th. McDonald was an All-Conference USA second-team as a senior as well as being named team’s Defensive Player of the Year. Born August 26, 1985 in Collins, Mississippi, McDonald attended Collins (MS) High School.
