Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom starring Idris Elba has made a huge impact into the lives of many people by depicting the life of Nelson Mandela from his youth all the way to becoming South Africa’s First Black President. Not only has the movie touched the lives of so many, it has captured the attention of OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network).
In a statement from OWN, they have acquired the rights to Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom and will be premiered on the cable channel in 2017. “We couldn’t be more honored to showcase this powerful film to the OWN viewers. Nelson Mandela was Oprah’s hero, and ultimately, the inspiration behind Oprah’s school in South Africa. His story of forgiveness and redemption is a gift not only to the people he touched, but to the world.”
Another powerful move by OWN in purchasing the rights. In case you’re not aware, OWN purchased the rights to Lee Daniel’s The Butler in September 2013. This movie is scheduled to premiere on the channel in 2017.
