    • Shaqir O’Neal, son of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, is transferring from Florida A&M after one season.
    • O’Neal averaged 6.7 points and 3.2 rebounds for the Rattlers during the 2024-2025 season.
    • He joins other key players from the team who have also entered the transfer portal.
    • FAMU has seen an influx of players entering the transfer portal, but also recently received a commitment from a high school recruit.

Shaqir O’Neal is entering the NCAA Transfer Portal after spending one season on the Florida A&M men’s basketball team, On3’s Jamie Shaw reported on Saturday.

In his junior season, O’Neal averaged 6.7 points and 3.2 rebounds for the Rattlers. Before joining FAMU last season, O’Neal spent 2021-2024 with Texas Southern and was a member of the Tigers’ 2022 and 2023 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament Championship teams.

Shaqir O’Neal is the son of four-time NBA champion and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal.

A 6-foot-8 forward, Shaqir O’Neal helped the Rattlers to a 13-16 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the SWAC during the 2024-2025 season.

This season’s FAMU men’s basketball team reached the SWAC Tournament for the first time since 2022 and won the program’s first-ever SWAC postseason game since joining the league during the 2021-2022 athletic year.

FAMU’s 13 victories under first-year head coach Patrick Crarey II were the most wins in a single season since 2008.

O’Neal’s transfer portal entry joins FAMU standouts from this past season, such as Sterling Young, the SWAC Player of the Year, and Milton Matthews, the SWAC’s Newcomer of the Year.

That includes an influx of FAMU men’s basketball players in the transfer portal, including starters Jordan Chatman and Kaleb Washington and reserve players.

However, on Saturday, Antonio Munoz, a wing from Chicago’s Whitney Young High School, announced his commitment to play college basketball at FAMU.

and Milton Matthews O’Neal’s transfer portal entry joins FAMU standouts from this past season such as Sterling Young the SWAC Player of the Year the SWAC’s Newcomer of the Year.
