Recently, I was deeply honored to be named this year’s Justice Peggy A. Quince Chapter of the National Black Law Students Association honoree at the St. Thomas University Benjamin L. Crump College of Law Black History Month Luncheon, Honoring Excellence: Past, Present, and Future.
This recognition goes beyond me; it is a symbol of progress and unity. We have come a long way, but we cannot become complacent.
Again, I am truly grateful for this honor and acknowledgment, but I am inspired by these law students and all they will do to change the world. As the first Black sheriff of Broward County my mission has always been to use my time in this office as a mechanism for justice, equality and unity. I continue to feel a great deal of responsibility to always do my best, and I will always strive to do so.
