    (Source Tallahassee Democrat):

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA ― The Florida A&M track and field program will return from the 2024 SWAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with 15 medals and the women’s championship title!

The success marks the second championship under Garfield Ellenwood II, the Rattlers’ Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, who recently led the women’s cross country team to the podium this past fall. FAMU’s medal count over the two-day indoor meet included six gold, five silver, and four bronze.

In the women’s standings, nine points separated the No. 1 and No. 2 teams; FAMU recorded 122 to defeat the reigning SWAC champions, Alabama State.

FAMU’s men’s team finished with 52 total points to place sixth overall in the 11-team field.

There’s plenty to discuss with Sunday’s gold-medal performances. Nya Blocker and Breanna Brown-Marshall respectively set SWAC championship records in the 200-meter dash (23.24) and high jump (1.83 meters / 6′) – the efforts also cemented PRs. And Tatiana Martinez, Rori Lowe, Lacie Deboskie, and Alesia Douglas delivered the Rattlers’ fastest 4×400 this season (3:44.98). The win arrived shortly after Douglas finished second in the 800 (2:12.77) and Tatianna Martinez third in the 400 (55.61).

The Rattlers will take a few weeks to recover before the final qualifying list for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships (March 8-9) is announced.
