In 2022 I was presented with the Centennial Leader Award by the National Parks Conservation Association for the difference I made connecting Americans to the national parks. That would not have happened if it wasn’t for The Westside Gazette which published the first story my husband Frank and I wrote about the parks and the environment in 1995. They have been our allies in getting information out across the country for almost 30 years. I salute our family at the Westside Gazette for all they have invested in the community at great personal and financial cost. I pray that in celebrating the 53rd year of this member of the Historically Black Press, the community will rise to the occasion of supporting them as they have supported us.
