    Liberal and progressive individuals and institutions should expect disruptions to not only continue but to increase in scale. Given the signals that the Trump administration has conveyed to the political Rightâas in suggesting that it is appropriate to beat up opponentsâthe rabid Right feels empowered.
    A 2012 Human Rights Watch report noted that the state of California had de factosentenced 301 people to die in its prisons for crimes they committed when they were under the age of 18.
How strong is our economy? It is undoubtedly stronger than it was a year ago, but itâs not as strong as some claim that it is. Labor market weaknesses and inequality are of particular concern to African Americans. Companies are hiring, but they arenât hiring enough African Americans to close the unemployment rate gap. There is legislation that might improve the economic status of African Americans. HR 7, the Paycheck Fairness Act, would provide remedies to close the gender pay gap.
    âWe are assembled together from across the nation as the media of America at a time when the Trump administration continues its frontal assault on the freedom of the press,â said Chavis, who received an invitation to attend the event from Urban Radio Network White House Correspondent April Ryan and AARPâs Senior Vice President of Multicultural Leadership Edna Kane Williams.

    With a vision to drive more Black females into the fields of STEM, Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, the newly-elected president and CEO of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), recently lead a major National Town Hall with a special focus on Black millennial women and career development at the NCNW headquarters, located in Washington, D.C.
    Each year since 2016, General Motorsâ Chevrolet brand has partnered with the NNPA, a trade association that represents more than 200 African American-owned media companies across the country. The Discover the Unexpected Journalism Fellowship provides a $10,000 scholarship, $7,500 stipend and the road trip of a lifetime to between six and eight students selected for the honor.
