The Crockett Foundation founded by retired NFL players Henri and Zack Crockett partnered with the Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Fort Lauderdale) to host its fourth annual Community Health Festival. It was held on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the beautiful Pompano Citi Center, 1955 N. Fed. Hwy., Pompano Beach, Florida.

This year’s community health festival had over 1000 attendees and served over 500 individuals. There were several new services added to the health festival this year such as physicals for the youth returning back to school, hearing screenings, haircuts and dental care resulting in long lines.  Henri Crockett, CEO of Crockett Foundation, stated “ I am very excited to see so many youth receiving these much needed services and anytime I can give back to the community and help to make a difference I’m ready. I truly see this as a blessing be-cause growing up I was not afforded these opportunities”. The youth also received free vouchers for their immunizations, as well as blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose checks, nutrition counseling, HIV testing and so much more.

The children also enjoyed live entertainment, face painting, basketball, stilt walkers and bounce house fun. Parents also had an opportunity to register to vote and participate in many of the health checks as well.

The children were required to visit at least three healthy living stations in order to complete their “Pathway to Good Health Passport” that was issued at registration.  They were then issued book bags filled with school supplies and survival items. The ladies of Zeta Rho Omega chapter ended the day by presenting the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Broward a check from their previous “Strike for A Cure Fundraiser. The Health committee members gave this donation to assist with sickle cell research.

The Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Crockett Foundation are happy to serve their community. Joe Ann Fletcher, President of Zeta Rho Omega Chapter, felt that this year’s health festival was a huge success. Lynette Johnson, Health Committee Chair of the chapter stated that plans are already being made for next Year’s event.  Information regarding the Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. can be found at www.zetarhoomega.org.
