The International African Arts Festival (IAAFestival), in conjunction with the National Association of Kawaida Organizations (NAKO), will host a virtual book talk featuring Author Gloria Browne-Marshall’s new book, “She Took Justice: The Black Woman, Law, and Power 1619-1969.”

The hour-long virtual event will take place on March 11, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. EST.

In the book “She Took Justice,” author, playwright, and civil rights attorney Gloria J. Browne-Marshall takes the reader on a journey of The Black Woman’s fight against racist laws and the road to becoming an organizer, leader, activist, and a fighter in her own advancement.

“I wanted to write this book to share stories of incredible Black women who, despite violence and law, fought to be free,” said Browne-Marshall. “My book reveals how The Black Woman took laws meant for her oppression and used it for her liberation.”

The IAAFestival and NAKO are extending their observation of Black History Month into March to dedicate recognition of the pivotal movements that Black women have made.

“We feel honored and blessed to have Author Gloria Browne-Marshall as a speaker for our annual Women’s History Month event, which we call “Black History Month Part II – Focus on Black Woman,” said Dr. Segun Shabaka, chairman of the International African Arts Festival as well as the New York Chapter NAKO. The virtual event will be streamed on www.iaafestival.org, Facebook at www.facebook.com/IAAFestival, and YouTube at International African Arts Festival.

“Author Browne-Marshall’s Gloria’s timely discussion of her latest book, She Took Justice, will bring new insight and understanding of the Black woman’s unprecedented and unsurpassed role in navigating her people’s experience as well as humanity’s journey as it flows through history.”
