FORT LAUDERDALE, FL –The holiday season is often called the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be a hard season for people lacking the resources to celebrate. The Salvation Army of Broward County’s signature Angel Tree Program endeavors to help families restore holiday joy by providing Christmas gifts for families in need.

Financially challenged parents and legal guardians looking to brighten their children’s holiday may register for the program on The Salvation Army’s website at https://saangeltree.org now through Monday, October 23 (or untilcapacity is met).

Registrants should have the following documentation ready for upload:

Parent/Guardian ID (must show Broward County address)

Proof of income (paystubs, unemployment letter, food stamps letter, etc.)

Child’s birth certificate with parents name, footprints (from hospital for children under a year), or vaccination records showing parent’s and child’s name

Legal custody support – an upload the court documentation showing approved legal guardianship.

Families eligible for assistance will be informed of their program acceptance. Children’s gift wishes will be turned into “Angel” ornament tags placed on holiday trees throughout Broward County inside of local malls, toy stores, and supporting businesses. Donors fulfill these requests, and gifts are collected, organized, and prepared by The Salvation Army for distribution in December.

The Angel Tree Program is only a small part of The Salvation Army’s holiday initiatives to aid the less fortunate. Alongside Angel Tree, essential funds for feeding, shelter, and social services are raised through the annual Red Kettle Bell-Ringing Campaign. The Red Kettle campaign calls on volunteers and community partners to ring the bell to attract attention and encourage donations from shoppers and pedestrians. These finances are used to help the most vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals in our communities.
