Toni Braxton back in studio with Babyface and going on tour after struggling with lupus and retiring

By Healthy Black Woman

When an artist says that they are going to retire from the music business, we must take it with a grain of salt. Cher, Kiss, and many other performers say that they are retiring and then a few months or a few years later they are back in the studio making albums and going back on tour. The newest edition to this elite league of artists is singer Toni Braxton. Did she announce her retirement to gauge interest and buzz from her fans to see if it was worth a “comeback”? Or did she simply just miss the music?

Last month Toni posted a photo of herself in a music studio with Babyface. She has now confirmed that she and Babyface have been recording her new album in the studio. She has also confirmed that she will be doing a 14 city tour as well. The tour begins on August 9th.

At the height of her popularity, R&B artist Toni Braxton won 6 Grammys, 7 American Music Awards, and 9 Billboard Music Awards. Some of her biggest hits include Unbreak My Heart, You’re Making Me High, and He Wasn’t Man Enough. Her self-titled debut album came out in 1993. She later filed for bankruptcy but then returned in 2000 with her album The Heat. Her album, Pulse, which came out in 2010 debuted at number one on the Billboard Charts.

Braxton was also on the 7th season of the reality show Dancing With The Stars. She was voted off in the fifth week of the competition with professional dancer Alec Mazo.

Most recently Toni was in the news because it was reported that she had been hospitalized for Lupus which is a chronic disease that mainly affects women. It is a disease where the body’s immune system overreacts and attacks the healthy tissues of the body. There are many different types of Lupus and different symptoms. Braxton tweeted to her fans that she was okay and it was just a flare up.

Regardless of the reason Toni is back, we’re glad to see she is in better health and back to doing what she loves.
