A meeting with the African Union, according to his Senegalese counterpart, Macky Sall, has been sought by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to Macky Sall.

When asked about a chat he had with Zelenskyy on the same day, Sall, who has served as head of the 55-member continental group since February, responded with a tweet on April 11.

Additionally, the two men discussed the economic effect of the Ukrainian conflict on the international economy, as well as “the need of boosting dialogue in order to seek a negotiated conclusion” in the conflict.

Many African countries have stayed neutral or restrained in their criticism of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine so far, because Moscow has long-standing relations with the continent that date back to the Cold War era.

Also, during the early stages of Russia’s blood-soaked incursion, fleeing African immigrants studying in Ukraine experienced cruel and racist treatment from members of the Ukrainian security apparatus.

Earlier this month, the United Nations General Assembly voted to exclude Russia from the United Nations Human Rights Council. There were nine African countries that voted against the resolution, and another 23 that abstained, accounting for more than half of the continent’s countries.
