FORT LAUDERDALE - Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Bobby DuBose filed for the open State House seat being vacated by House Minority Leader, Representative Perry E. Thurs-ton, Jr., who cannot run again due to term-limits.

District 94 includes much of Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, portions of Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, Oakland Park and Plantation.

DuBose, a Democrat said, “he will use his experience from city hall to “improve the quality of life for the residents of District 94 and the citizens of Florida.”

The commissioner was first elected to the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, District III in 2009 and was elected by his colleagues to be the Vice Mayor of that body two years after-wards.  He was re-elected with no opposition for a second term in 2012.

In 2012, Commissioner DuBose was elected by fellow elected officials of Broward’s 31 municipalities to serve as the president of the Broward League of Cities. During his tenure as the league’s president, he launched “Together We Serve,” an initiative to forge a partnership with Broward County municipalities and encourage elected officials and residents to donate one million volunteer hours to worthwhile charitable causes.

“City Commissioner Bobby Dubose has been the driving force behind the economic development and revitalization of our City’s central and northwest areas. Bobby’s energy, enthusiasm, and work ethic has set a course for more jobs, greater opportunities, and a brighter future for Fort Lauderdale” said Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler.

DuBose said his priorities are “jobs, economic growth and ensuring a quality education is provided for the children of this community and state.”

“Commissioner DuBose has an impressive record of working very hard for his constituents, leading the Broward League of Cities and demonstrating his leadership skills of bringing people together to get things done.  Bobby will be an excellent and effective representative for District 94 in Tallahassee” said House Minority Leader, Representative Perry E. Thurston, Jr.

Commissioner DuBose was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale. DuBose graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in economics and was also a member of the prestigious Florida Blue Key. He is currently an MBA candidate at Nova Southeastern University.  The Commissioner is married and he and his wife have a nine-year-old son and another baby due in November.
