Month: April 2020

The global COVID-19 pandemic has all Americans feeling financially burdened, but more African Americans are being affected as there are currently more than 20 million unemployment claims across the country. Experts say that Black unemployment could eventually be as high as 30%, but one web site, BlackJobs.com, is helping to solve the problem.

To actively encourage Black youth to focus on being counted in the 2020 Decennial Census, despite the Coronavirus (COVID 19) global pandemic, the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation’s (NCBCP) Black Youth Vote (BYV!) youth civic leadership and power-building program and its Unity Diaspora Coalition (UDC) 2020 Campaign’s national and state-based partner organizations will launch “#CountMeBlack Youth Census 2020 Week (Count Me Black Youth Week),” Monday, April 27 to Friday, May 1, 2020.

Recently, Congresswoman Wilson announced that Florida will receive $173,585,880 million in emergency education funding as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that Congress passed last month. The funding comes from the Governor’s Emergency Edu-cation Relief (GEER) Fund, which allocates nearly $3 billion for governors to use at their discretion to support their state’s K-12 and higher education needs related to COVID-19.
