Broward School Board Chair, Dr. Rosalind Osgood, announced today that she will run for the late senate seat being vacated by Senator  Perry Thurston  who is running for the Congressional seat formerly held by the late Congressman Alcee Hastings.

“Senator Thurston has been a strong voice representing us in the Florida Senate,” said Dr. Osgood. “His decision to run for Congress creates a vacancy that I intend to work hard to fill. The next state senator from District 33 must be a tireless advocate for children, families, the elderly, the homeless, and all working people. I have devoted my adult life and professional career to being that advocate. And I am prepared to continue doing so in the Florida Senate.”

In addition to being a highly effective voice for improving Broward schools and student achievement, Dr. Osgood was the first female preacher in the history of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church where she is also now an Associate Minister. But Rosalind Osgood’s service to our community goes even further. As the Chief Executive and driving force behind the Mount Olive Development Corporation, she has organized and provided more than 10,000 meals to Broward seniors and at-risk residents throughout the course of the COVID-19 Pandemic in addition to providing affordable housing for more than 530 Broward families.

Dr. Osgood has volunteered her time and talent to many civic organizations including service as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, the Links Incorporated, the Broward Behavioral Health Coalition Board and the Circuit 17 Juvenile Justice Advisory Board. Her background and experience will make her a strong and effective voice for Broward in the Florida Senate on Day 1. Florida Senate District 33 includes the cities of Fort Lauderdale, Lauderhill, Lauderdale Lakes, Margate, North Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Pompano Beach, Sunrise and Tamarac.
