    Urban League of Broward County Announces New Board Chair, Members, and Executive Committee

    FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Urban League of Broward County (ULBC) announced the election of new leadership and members to its Board of Directors.  Shawn Sackman, Middle Market Leader for Truist, was elected to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors, with Tim Hogans, Manager of External Affairs for FPL, elected as 1st Vice Chair. Sidney Calloway, Partner for Shutts, will continue to serve on ULBC’s Executive Committee as Immediate Past Chair along with the following members: Marie Waugh, Executive Human Resources Consultant, 2nd Vice Chair; Jason Jenkins, SVP of Communications, Miami Dolphins, Secretary; Pablo Pino, Market Leader for TD Bank, Treasurer; and Giselle Cushing, Cigna – SFL and Caribbean Market President, Member-at-Large.

    Shawn Sackman is Middle Market Bank Leader South Florida, Truist. Shawn has more than 17 years’ experience in the financial services industry, during which he managed a variety of different segments to include middle market for profit, municipal and non-profit organizations and most recently served as Commercial Team Leader and Market President for the Broward, Palm Beach and Treasure Coast Markets.  Shawn is very engaged in the community and was named as one of the 2019 and 2020 Power Leaders by the South Florida Business Journal.  Additionally, Shawn was recognized three years in a row as one of the Power Leaders in Banking by the South Florida Business Journal and top 40 under 40 at the age of 30 by both South Florida Business Journal and Gold Coast Magazine.

    Dr. Shanequa Fleming is the Founder and CEO of Culture Accelerators, Inc. and trusted advisor and strategist to senior leaders and their teams. For more than 20 years, Shanequa has helped organizations and leaders that span the landscape of society reimagine, redesign, and optimize how they work.  She is the architect of two award-winning leadership development/coaching programs – The Well Executive® and The Well Physician® – recognized by the Association for Talent Development (ATD) for its futuristic, innovative, content as well as structure.

    Brenda Morrison is a leader and community advocate who is passionate about building and fostering relationships with current and future generations of young professionals to empower them to be change agents in their communities. Brenda has worked on several local and state electoral campaigns, including serving as an aide to Former U.S. Senator Bill Nelson and legislative aide intern for City of Lauderhill Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn. Brenda currently serves as the President of the Urban League of Broward County Young Professionals Network, empowering young professionals between the ages of 21-40 in Broward County to give back and grow professionally through the Urban League Movement.

    The Urban League’s new board members will help lead the organization in the coming year as it works to advance the lives of African Americans and others in historically underserved communities by provi-ding them with more access to Education, Entrepreneurship, Jobs, Justice, Housing, and Health.
