Edward Williams of the UMBA recently organized the Second Pick Up Fort Lauderdale Initiative. The event was held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, The UMBA partnered with King Security, Right Track Inc., and Broward County Schools local Guidance Counselors and BRACE Advisors from Boyd Anderson, Dillard, Fort Lauderdale, Nova, Plantation, South Plantation, Piper, and Stranahan High Schools to clean up Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Fl., from Broward Boulevard to Oakland Park Boulevard. The event was organized to enable as many people as possible to help clean up the corridor of MLK JR. Boulevard.

Edward Williams, president of the UMBA  a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida said,  “ There was nothing more disappointing than to drive down the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard of Broward County and see the mass of debris scattered along the streets just minutes from where he grew up.” Consequently he decided that MLK JR. Boulevard (31st Avenue) would be the most rewarding place for the second Pick Up Fort Lauderdale Initiative. Williams reached out to over 30 local companies and only three major brands stepped up to participate: Winn-Dixie, Home Depot, and Lowe’s.

The President of the UMBA expressed his gratitude to the volunteers as well as all the brands, including King Security that provided security for the many students that walked along the road. He also appreciated the many efforts of Rodman Davis of Right Track Inc, the nonprofit organization that partnered with the  UMBA in the second Pick Up Fort Lauderdale Initiative. Also thanks to Flamingo Liquor’s for allowing volunteers to park in their parking lot, The City of Fort Lauderdale for facilitating the garage pick up, and A special thanks to Ms Rosa, Manager of Lowes on Oakland Park Boulevard and Ninth Avenue, who provided a great deal of tools and equipment to support the Pick Fort Lauderdale Initiative. Williams also complemented Lowe’s for having such a great person working in their organization as well as the Broward County School’s Guidance Counselor’s and BRACE as well as students at Boyd Anderson,Dillard,Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, South Plantation, and Nova, Piper, Stranahan High School’s for working with The UMBA to make the weekend a success while allowing students to get their volunteer hours.

We also thank the 3 professional Florida South Beach Sharks that came out and signed signed autographs and picked up paper.

We can’t for the folks at streaminnhubradio for promoting the event at no cost. Mr Williams also revealed the next step of action for the UMBA,” We are gearing up for our new season of basketball, but first each of our 16 teams must sell 100,000 shirts starting in the month of May. We are excited to see which of our 16 states 100,000 sales mark first. The first state to reach the100,000 mark first will win the right to host the UMBA All Pro Weekend. Their team gets an automatic round bye in the playoffs regardless in the inaugural season as well as the right to host the first two of the finals. This will give a windfall to the winning states local economy.”
