In an attempt to follow up on the cancellation of the Dillard/Stranahan game, no one could verify whether any disciplinary action had been taken against students who caused the disruption as the principal was unavailable. However, I am awaiting a call from her designee.  I did speak with Mr. Witherspoon who had no knowledge of any impending disciplinary actions against the perpetrators of this unseemly behavior. However, anyone in attendance should also be appalled and alarmed. As I previously commented, one person died at a high school football game in Oklahoma, and a professor was fatally shot on the campus of North Carolina University. Too serious to ignore!!!

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes’ upset victory over FBS finalist TCU has not only shaken up college football but has also elevated his status and influence as a leader of young men. Remember many pundits predicted that the Buffs would be fortunate to win a paltry 3 games. You can put those thoughts to bed. Depending on how the season shakes out, they could become bowl eligible.

The ACC, one of two major conferences that I’ve encouraged student/athletes and parents to seek alternatives when choosing where to take their talents, based on their elected politicians’ aversion to minority interests, has surprisingly dominated their SEC opponents. On Sunday night, FSU‘s second half  blitz humbled LSU 41-26, and North Carolina handily defeated South Carolina, signaling a pause on Southeastern Conference assumed superiority. Of course, it’s still early. After the Duke Blue Devils shocked Clemson, which led in every statistically, significant offensive category, 28-7 on Labor Day, parity appears to be the norm in the ACC.

Coco Gauff (won her match and has reached the semi-finals) and Francis Tiafoe, not unexpectedly, have reached the quarter finals of the US Open in women’s and men’s tennis respectively as minorities continue to have a major impact. Coco’s path to winning her first major was made easier when Jelena Ostapenko upset number 1 seeded Iga Swiatek. Coco and Jelena will now meet in the quarterfinals. Madison Keys, another talented minority pro, has also reached the quarterfinals. On the men’s side, 2 Black players have reached the quarterfinals for the first time in Open history: Tiafoe and Ben Shelton. However, they will face off against each other today in New York. Minority impact is steadily increasing.

The NFL season begins Thursday with the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs facing the much improved Detroit Lions in a highly anticipated battle. Let the games begin!
