Betty’s Soul Food to open second location in Pompano Beach

    By Shanna Benson

On June 18 the Pompano Beach CRA Board will determine approval for the execution of sublease agreements for three new tenants in the 731 Retail Shoppes building: Betty’s Soul Food, Inc., ManeFACE and Your Financial Solutions.

The approval of these sublease agreements will bring new jobs and much needed economic activity to the area along Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Downtown Pompano.

Betty’s Soul Food, a South Florida main staple for over 30 years, will be the first restaurant to open in the 731 Retail Shoppes development.

Betty Taylor, who owns and operates the restaurant, is famously known for deep fried chicken, collard greens and BBQ favorites. Taylor recently put nearly $500,000 worth of renovations into the Fort Lauderdale location, but decided to expand with a second location to grow her business and service more customers. Taylor chose this location because so many of her customers already travel from Pompano to her current location, and have been begging her for years to open a second location.

The new restaurant will be identical to the original Betty’s Soul Food but will include an outdoor seating area.

Taylor currently employs 10 people in Fort Lauderdale and expects to double that number with the opening of this location, which will be hired locally through the CRA Business Resource Center Job Placement Program.

The second sublease agreement up for approval is Mane-FACE, a family owned business run by Zavia House. This will be the fourth salon for House, whose family currently operates three other salons in Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville. ManeFACE will be the family’s flagship location specializing in hair and lash extensions in a rush. Your Financial Services, owned by Rachel Lucas, is a financial services planner and bookkeeping firm opening professional office space in the plaza.
