From Trecia Matthews Hosein, Director of Program Services

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — On Oct. 30, 2013, 6 – 8 p.m., Me and My Dad Challenge at Joseph C. Carter Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County (HMHB) offers a Fatherhood Mentorship Program, Fathers Step Up!

The Fatherhood Mentorship Program provides support to fathers and aims to encourage their involvement, beginning at conception and throughout the entire life of the child. The program recruits men in Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill and Fort Lauderdale areas which are considered at risk communities for infant mortality.

Through educational group sessions, case management and mentor support, this community based program assists men in developing the attitudes, knowledge and skills that are needed to become and stay involved with their children.

The Fatherhood Mentorship Program is funded by The Jim Moran Foundation and The Children’s Services Council of

    Broward County.

To further encourage fathers’ engagement in their children’s lives, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County teams up with Tony Sands, The City of Fort Lauderdale and other community organizations to offer an exciting event, Me and My Dad Challenge for fathers with their children.

Fathers with their children will participate in an obstacle course, three-point shootout and other team building activities. There will be special guest appearances by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Michael Irvin and Warren Sapp.

This event is open to the community and promises to be a fun-packed evening with prizes and refreshments.

To compete in the Challenge, participants must register online at www.memydad.eventbrite.com or call Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies of Broward at (954) 765-0550 ext. 303
