         HALLANDALE, BEACH, FL — The Crockett Foundation organization will partner with the Ladies of Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for its 2nd Annual “Derby Days” Belmont Stakes Party. This will be an evening of fun, interactive entertainment, celebrity bartenders, food, raffle, silent auction and more is to raise funds in order to promote literacy among middle school students. This unique event will be held at O-Lounge and Vibe Nightclub, 333 Las Olas Blvd. adjacent to YOLO Restaurant, on June 7, 2014, from 5 to 9 p.m.

    The attendees will not only view the Belmont Stakes race on a large viewing screen but will have an opportunity to possibly witness history. This may be the first time since 1978 that a horse was awarded the “Triple Crown”. The Triple Crown, is a series of three Thoroughbred horse races for three-year-old horses that run in May and early June of each year consisting of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.

    According to research, many students dropout prior to high school because they cannot read, or because of delinquent behavior resulting from not being able to read.

    The Crockett Foundation’s School is Cool program, at Margate Middle School in Margate, Fla., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m., focuses on improving literacy among middle school students. The foundation is led by Henri Crockett, a native of Pompano Beach, Fla. and former NFL player with the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings; and his brother Zach Crockett, a retired NFL player and current scout for the Oakland Raiders.

    The attire is derby chic. Invited celebrity guests included retired NBA player Eddie Jones, Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, Broward County School Board Member Dr. Rosalind Osgood, Florida State Senator Chris Smith–District 31, Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Bobby DuBose, Pompano Beach Mayor Lamar Fisher, Miramar City Commissioner Wayne Messam, retired NFL players Henri and Zach Crockett, Fred Taylor, and many more.

    VIP tickets include admission to the Celebrity VIP O-Lounge, VIP open bar, unlimited hors d’oeuvres, and free play for Belmont Raffle ticket for chance to win door prize. Individual tickets include: general admission to Vibe nightclub, complimentary drink ticket and complimentary hors d’oeuvres.

    “Since 2002, we at the Crockett Foundation have continuously been striving to build strong communities through our various educational, mentoring and tutorial programs,” said Henri Crockett, founder and executive director of the Crockett Foundation.

    Joe Ann Fletcher, president of Zeta Rho Omega Chapter one of the oldest Greek lettered sororities in Broward County stated, “We will be celebrating 60 years of community service  to Broward County in 2015 and we are elated to partner with the Crockett Foundation for such a worthy cause as promoting literacy among our youth.”
