Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated – Zeta Rho Omega Chapter’s Global Poverty Committee’s timeless service ‘around the clock’

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — With an incredible 2014 year of giving back to the community, the Global Poverty Committee, under the leadership of Joeann Fletcher, President, Afrah Hamin, First Vice President, Annette Johnson Hurry, Second Vice President Co-Chairmen, Leila Lumpkins, Claudia Morgan, and Doris Love, Co-Chairmen, Committee Members, and full support of the Chapter’s generosity to give back to the Broward County Community, Zeta Rho Omega Chapter made the entire year’s volunteer work, a “Labor of Love.”
The Chapter’s participation in the MLK Day of Service at the Saint Laurence Day Shelter for the Homeless, where chapter members bagged lunches, sorted clothing, bagged beans and rice, and served a nutritious luncheon meal. There was an array of Easter baskets donated to children of teen mothers at Drew Resource Center. Even at the Mothers’/Fathers’ Day Celebration in conjunction with Federated Women Club Day Care, there was cake and punch served , as well as fruit bags were also given.
Zeta Rho Omega has continued to serve meals on the weekend, and tutor at Sunland Park Academy. Clothing was collected for the Broward Partnership for the Homeless and distributed for an International League, a South Florida Chapter, in cooperation with other organizations, where women were given designated vouchers to shop for items of clothing so desperately needed.
The traditional Thanksgiving Baskets were donated totaling 26 boxes of food distributed to 13 needy families in Broward County. There were 14 book bags contributed for the National Initiative during the Cluster 1 Conference in Delray, Fla.
There was full support of the Crockett Foundation in the “Back to School” Health Fair in Pompano Beach, Fla, where hundreds of donated book bags were also distributed.
In spreading the good deeds so generously, a handful of donated gift cards for toys were also given to the children with cancer at Broward Health in the City of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Successfully, to culminate the “End of the Year” project to serve, this hardworking committee donated seeds for a neighborhood garden in Dania Beach, Fla.
