The NAACP Florida State Conference releases a statewide Economic Development Report Card upon examining the records of public and private organizations.

MIAMI, FL — Adora Obi Nweze, President of NAACP Florida State Conference and Torey Alston, State Economic Development Chair released a statewide Economic Development Report Card after examining the records of leading public and private organizations over the last four months.

“I am excited to release our Statewide Report examining the records of several agencies,” says Adora Obi Nweze, who also serves as a member of the National Board of the NAACP. “This is a great tool to raise awareness on diversity and inclusion for communities of color along with highlighting agencies that just don’t get it.”

The Diversity Matters Initiative examined the records of targeted cities, counties, school districts and private corporations statewide.  The NAACP Florida State Conference examined their records on employment, advertising and spending with minority, women and veteran-owned businesses.  The NAACP Florida State Conference will conduct this review annually and share with the Governor, Legislature and the general public.

“This report card and thorough examination of their practices will send a strong message that we believe in transparency and will publish our results for the general public to decide,” says Torey Alston, who led this statewide effort on diversity and also serves as State Chair of Economic Development. “The results show we need major policy reform in cities, counties and school districts in the state.  Our letter grades led to several recommendations we will make to Governor Scott and the Legislature.”

The NAACP aims to enhance the capacity of African Americans, and other underserved groups, through financial economic education; promoting diversity and inclusion in business hiring, career advancement and procurement; monitoring financial banking practices and promoting community economic development.
