In Loving Tribute Albert Tucker

In the Fall of 2016 when I was contemplating a site for the 2018 Alpha Kappa Alpha South Atlantic Regional Conference, Mr. Tucker offered every possible resource available to him to ensure a successful meeting. Al Tucker was a humble servant, a compassionate humanitarian and a consummate professional. He was passionate about bringing organizations of color to our beautiful county. He embodied “Hello Sunny!” Al worked tirelessly with the local chapters of our sororities and fraternities of the Divine 9. Al was a gentleman, passionate leader with a vision and fearless in his approach to heighten multi-culturalism in the tourism industry for Greater Fort Lauderdale. He was laser focused on people of color and championed the African American Research Library and Cultural Center as the home to history and culture of people of color in Greater Fort Lauderdale and to visitors from around the globe. Albert was a truly caring person who understood that the playing field for Blacks is not always level.  In that regard, he did everything that that he could to highlight and acknowledge Black culture and the Black experience in South Florida. He helped us to appreciate the enormous buying power within the Black South Florida community. He was a person who thought outside of the box and consistently made it difficult for the value of Black people, Black organizations and Black tourism to be ignored.
