    The Gantt Report

    A Failure to communicate

    By Lucius Gantt

What we have here is a failure to communicate!

Don’t blame it on the alcohol. If Barack Obama loses his Presidential re-election bid, blame it on the Democrats!

I’m glad that the Democratic Party is not a group of fire fighters or emergency medical technicians because they are pitiful responders!

Even Stevie Wonder can see that the Republican spin machine is far more effective than anything the Democrats can imagine.

The Democrats never get out front on a political message and apparently they are incapable of responding to the false promises, fake solutions and outright lies of their political opponents.

This 2012 election has been permeated with slip ups, miscues and bizarre statements from Republican candidates.

“Legitimate rape” is the latest of a slew of wrongful comments made by members of the Republican Party and the Democratic Party should have been all over that stupid statement with advertising, direct mail and possibly robo-calls telling women that their health, their choices and maybe their lives would be ruined by putting people in power that have no respect what-soever for America’s female voters and citizens!

The people hired to create and deliver political messages for the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates should be tarred and feathered!

Anybody can understand that a political party should respond to lies that could hurt the party candidates seeking election but only a professional can figure out when a response is needed and how that response should be delivered.

The Democratic Party’s most loyal and supportive base of voters, Blacks, don’t have a clue as to what Democrats will do to address issues of interest to African Americans.

Nowadays, elections are very scientific and very technological. This idea that Black people will vote for you just because you’re a Democrat or just because you are Black is a recipe for political disaster!

You have to have the right message to get the high turnout of Black, women, Hispanic and middle class voters to generate the voter numbers that President Obama needs for reelection.

And, a word to the wise for other Democratic candidates, President Obama doesn’t have any “coat tails”. Many Blacks will go to the polls and cast a vote for Obama and then walk out of the polling place.

Don’t take my word for it. Look at the states that have Democratic registration numbers greater than Republican numbers but still can’t get all registered Democrats to vote Democratic. In Florida, for instance, a Democratic candidate, other than Obama and one or two federal candidates, can’t go to sleep and dream about beating a Republican in a statewide race.

I hope Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson aren’t the ones advising the Democratic voters to ignore Black voters until the last weekend in October.

I don’t care how many flyers you put on cars in the church parking lot if the election flyers don’t have the right message Black voters won’t even read the material!

Television advertising is certainly helpful but political commercials don’t vote, people vote.

You tell me. How and when will the Democratic Party get a motivational and inspirational message directly to the voters that will encourage them to vote for the best candidates?
