A Re-Pete for New Pete

Trials In The Sand By Peter Traceit, The Street Detective

For Pete’s sake, what the heck is going on with the Broward School Board? For as long as Ol Pete’s been alive, there has never been the spectacle that played out at today’s Board meeting.

Just when you thought things with this Board would be getting better, they outdid themselves. All of the other drama can’t com”pete” with the spectacle Ol Pete endured today.

Ol Pete got dressed up and went down to the KC Wright building to witness a new friend who shares the same name.

Ol Pete wanted to impress New Pete so the dirt was brushed from the suit and the whiskers were trimmed back.

New Pete and his wife arrived early in great anticipation of the day.

This Board is determined to maintain their ranking as the laughingstock of all governing boards. Let Ol Pete re-pete what happened today.

The Detective is told that it takes five of nine Board members to be physically seated on the dais to have a quorum. Surprisingly, on the day that Super Pete was to be made official, there were not five, not four, but a mere three sitting in their designated seats.

Board members, Sara Leonardi, Jeptha “Jeff” Holness and Alan Zeman showed up in person while Board chair, Lori Alhadeff; Vice Chair, Debra Hixon and Nora Rupert were out of the country, however they each called in.

Three other Board members, Torey Alston, Brenda Fam and Daniel Foganholi were ghost, in person and virtually.

The Special Board meeting to approve the New Sup was subsequently cancelled. No one and Ol Pete means no one could outcom-pete Zeman’s boiling hot temper tantrum.  As only a glutton for the spotlight can do, he took to the media stage to point a finger of blame at Superintendent Earlean Smiley for the debacle. Pete chuckled as Zeman delivered his two minutes of fame, only to be upstaged and downplayed by the unbossed, unbought, unbothered and unbullied interim superintendent, Dr. Earlean Smiley. Smiley came up the rear and put some respect on her name.

It appears the very bossed and bothered Zeman will have to wait at least another week to be rid of Smiley.

Pete is told that the public has to be noticed of a Special Board Meeting. This would put the New Pete’s contract discussions and approval to the second week in July, at the earliest.

Ol Pete is still excited for his namesake and will return for a re-pete once a date is determined.

In the meantime, the Detective will continue gliding through the sand in search of clues.
