In partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Zeta Rho Omega Chapter, exchanged their PINK for RED in the “Pink Goes Red” community impact day event for Heart Health month on Feb. 5, 2016 at Mount Herman AME Church Multi-purpose Center.

Annette Johnson-Hurry, President of the Zeta Rho Omega Chapter and Gail Bouie, chairman of the Health Promotions along with the committee and chapter members planned a “Pink Goes Red ~ Event for a Cause”. The event included line dancing for cardio, food to fuel the body and fellowship with over 100 participants.  The focus of the event was to promote heart health by maintaining an active lifestyle in order to combat heart disease. The AHA representative, Jessica Lodispoto, provided a brief overview of heart disease and its risk factors. Feb. 1st marked the 13th year for the AHA “Go Red for Women” movement to help raise awareness of heart disease being the number one killer of women.

Our Family Strengthening committee, chaired by Barbara Lumpkins also hosted a “Wrapped in Red” event for the senior citizens of the Northwest Federated Women’s Club on Monday, Feb. 15. It was an exciting day of activities, which included movement exercises, crafts, games and prizes. Each of the Northwest Federated Women’s Club senior citizens received a red shawl or red throw blanket as a part of our seasonal wrap initiative.

Upcoming Zeta Rho Omega events include our annual “Strike for a Cure” bowling event that will be held on May 14, 2016, proceeds to support Alzheimer’s disease and the Senior Citizens of the Northwest Federated Women’s Club. Please visit us at www.zetarhoomega.org
