Superbowl 2022 enjoyed an electrifying performance by the incomparable Mary J. Blige who brought the hip-hop heat to a star studded, fast paced, powerful halftime show, joined by legends Snoop Dog and Doctor Dre.  Blige, who recently released her album “Good Morning Gorgeous” to critical acclaim, will reprise her high energy show at the 15th Annual Jazz in the Gardens (JITG) Music Festival, which takes place on March 12 and 13, 2022.

     At its upcoming “His Legacy Lives On” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast, guests will be asked, “will you leave anything for your future generations?”  The public is invited to come together to talk about and celebrate Dr. King’s legacy on the anniversary of his passing. Guest speakers will include a social activist-parent-professor turned author, the newest leader of the tenth largest school district in the nation, and the founder of a coalition dedicated to exploring local, racial terror lynchings.

     On Friday, February 25, President Joe Biden made Judge Jackson his choice to succeed Justice Stephen Breyer, who announced his retirement in January.  “It’s because of Judge Brown Jackson’s experience in roles at all levels of the justice system, her character, and her legal brilliance that President Biden nominated her to the D.C. Circuit Court, after which she earned her third Senate confirmation,” White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates wrote in an earlier statement.

Texas student wins NAACP Image Award

     If it looks that the parents of transgender minors are obtaining gender-affirming medical treatment, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (pictured) is urging “licensed professionals” and “members of the general public” to report them to state authorities.

      Civil Rights Attorney Jennifer Bonjean Releases a Statement Regarding David Ian Blue’s Innocence (Black PR Wire) After over a month delay, Judge Michelle M. Schafer, of Williamson County Illinois, denied Civil Rights Attorney Jennifer Bonjean’s request for a retrial for wrongfully convicted David Ian Blue. Blue was convicted of sexual assault, on September 10, 2021, by bench trial by Judge Michelle Schafer. “False accusations are present in 85% of wrongful convictions of child sexual assaults,” According to the National Registry for Exonerations. Blue is a victim of an unjust system, where Black men are disproportionately impacted by harmful judicial practices and wrongful convictions.

     In at least two instances that historical analysis by the newspapers themselves has been followed by an apology. The papers in the Black cities of Baltimore, Philadelphia and Kansas City studied and confronted decades of negative news coverage on Black communities.
