An evening of profound significance unfolded in Fort Lauderdale as New Era Lodge No. 69, in conjunction with esteemed community partners, came together to mark the 60th anniversary of the tragic 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing. Held at the Sunshine Cathedral, this event served as a poignant tribute to the lives lost and a reaffirmation of the enduring legacy of the Civil Rights Movement.

And why should you? If it’s not right, you make it right. If it can be better, well, then get at it. You find the solution or you go on to the next thing because good enough is never good enough.  As in the new book “Bayard Rustin,” essays edited by Michael G. Long, there’s always work  to do and good trouble.

The honorable Hiram Rhodes Revels became the first Black man elected to the US Senate in 1870. He was elected by the great state of Mississippi to fill the seat held by Jefferson Davis. Senator Davis vacated the seat when the south seceded from the Union to start the civil war in 1861. It was a weird twist of fate that a Black man after the war would take the seat held by the former President of the Confederacy.

Pollsters, behaving as political  forecasters, are predicting that the Republican Party’s presidential nominee for the  2024 presidential election, will present turbulent adversarial  challenges   for President Joe Biden, who’s slated to be the democrats’ incumbent presidential nominee. Surely, no one should think that democrats are sitting on their laurels and crying woe is us. No! Democrats are launching a strategic offensive election plan, which includes   registering tens of millions of  voters with incorruptible integrity.

Black voters have slipped into silence and the state is no longer a swing state. All around the state, the governor has gerrymandered the maps, and there are more seats for Republicans. Not only are there more red seats in the legislature, there are more red seats in the local and city elections.
