     Vida Blue, a hard-throwing left-hander who became one of baseball’s biggest draws in the early 1970s and helped lead the brash A’s to three straight World Series titles before his career was derailed by drug problems, died Saturday, according to the team. He was 73.

Siding with arguments by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, a federal judge late Thursday issued a temporary restraining order against a new Biden administration policy that would lead to large numbers of migrants being released into the United States.

Florida and federal officials were locked in an eleventh-hour legal battle Thursday as the state sought to block a new policy that would allow large numbers of migrants to be released into the United States.

     DeSantis held a bill-signing event in Destin on the same day that a federal public-health emergency for COVID-19 was set to end. But DeSantis pointed to a need to address the potential of future government mandates.

     DeSantis on Feb. 1 released budget and tax proposals that didn’t include a reduction in the commercial-lease tax, which businesses have long sought to cut. But at $256 million, a reduction in the lease tax is the biggest break included in a tax package (HB 7063) that lawmakers passed Friday.

Saying that social media does “more harm than good,” Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday signed education changes that include prohibiting students from using cell phones during class time and curtailing use of the social-media platform TikTok on school grounds.
