      Starting in 1691, the colony of Virginia began the practice of regulating the legal identity of human beings based on genealogy. This included a ban on interracial marriage and government workers given the task of determining the ethnic/ racial identity of each resident based on the presence or absence of an African descended ancestor. Almost two centuries later, in 1865, a similar law was passed in Florida.

     As the movie’s title reveals, the main story is about two demons who are brothers, Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Jordan Peele). They’re trying to scheme their way out of the Underworld and slither into the Land of the Living. To fulfill their dream, they need the aid of a “Hail Maiden,” someone with magical powers who can help demon’s crossover. Hence their interest in Kat. She’s got that swag.

November 10, 2022- U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick visited the OIC of South Florida (OIC-SFL) Broward County office to meet with OIC-SFL President and CEO Newton B. Sanon and other senior leadership. During the tour, President/CEO Sanon highlighted his strategic vision to facilitate economic growth and community partnerships to benefit South Floridians.

     As the dust settles on the midterm elections and the warnings of a “Red Wave” evaporate, it’s time to take a deep breath and take stock of what we’ve learned. There are many takeaways from the elections this year – and here are a few that top the list for me. 

     “The house we lived in was built on top of an old cemetery. Supernatural stuff was always happening in our home: sounds, cupboards banging, howling noises. My sister, Joyce, was constantly rebuking spirits and things would calm down.”
