FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — BHG Financial has partnered with YMCA of South Florida pledging $100,000 in support of the Y’s mission, as well as BHG’s new feature space in the gymnasium in the new $20 million, four-story, 65,000-sq.-ft. L.A. Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center on Sistrunk Boulevard. It’s the latest initiative to further strengthen BHG Financial’s philanthropic presence in Florida.

“Not only is South Florida the area where BHG Financial first laid its roots, but it’s where I grew up and learned what a sense of community was,” said Eric Castro, Co-founder at BHG Financial and a South Florida native. “It is a true honor to sponsor a civic pillar such as the Y and the critical services it provides to people from all over this region. We’re looking forward to elevating the YMCA of South Florida every day of the year.”

BHG leadership and colleagues joined city officials, including City of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Pam Beasley-Pittman, community leaders and volunteers in announcing the partnership.

“We are united with the Y on a shared commitment to move our South Florida community forward as part of our partnership that will span decades,” Castro added.

The gymnasium at the Y holds a new full basketball court, which can also be reconfigured as a volleyball court. BHG’s donation is earmarked for YMCA programs that nurture youth, promote healthy living and foster a sense of social responsibility.

“We are so thrilled to have the support of BHG,” said YMCA of South Florida President and CEO Sheryl Woods. “BHG puts people first and that’s the business we are in. The L.A. Lee YMCA Center is a special place for the local community. At the Y, we continue to build happy, confident and secure children, families and communities.”
