50,000 thousand pencils, 17,000 pairs of scissors, 11,000 bottles of glue and 5,000 reams of paper were just some of the school supplies in 3,000+ boxes distributed recently to Big Brothers Big Sisters partner schools, thanks to the Publix Tools for Back to School program.

“Publix is committed to helping today’s students become tomorrow’s achievers through our Tools for Back to School program, supported by our generous customers and associates who make donations toward purchasing school supplies for students in need,” said Publix Media & Community Relations Manager Nicole Krauss. “We’re extremely proud to support the students who participate in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County program, students who are empowered daily through important mentoring relationships.”

Publix delivered the abundance of school supplies to the Big Brothers Big Sisters parking lot in a huge freight truck emblazoned with its iconic green logo.  Volunteers from ServPro Fort Lauderdale South and Juda, Eskew & Associates, P.A. did much of the heavy lifting by hauling the supplies from the truck to teachers’ cars and flatbeds.  Fifteen Broward County schools received the supplies. “We hope that by connecting our schools to the Publix Tools for Back to School program that we might decrease the budget squeeze that affects families, teachers and schools,” said Ana Cedeno, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County. “We’re so grateful to Publix for this program and for consistently stepping up as our community and business partner.”

Publix Tools for Back to School enables customers and associates to contribute $5, $7 or $10 to help students who may not have basic learning supplies like pens, markers, crayons, or notebooks and to help teachers who often spend their own money to provide these essentials. Tools for Back to School supports the Publix commitment to be involved as responsible citizens in the communities where they do business.
