Broward County United Nations Association of the USA, Dr. W. Blanca Moore-Velez-president, inducted into Broward County Women’s Hall of Fame

Broward County Chapter United Nations Association USA, President Dr. W. Blanca Moore-Velez, was inducted into The Broward County Women’s Hall of Fame on March 23, 2013. Dr. Velez has served as president to UNA/USA since 1991. Her passion is to keep the community of Broward County abreast with the quality of service given by the United Nations.
Her dedication for the community service has earned numerous honors and awards including 50 Years Membership from The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc. The Broward County Women’s History Coalition (BCWNC) honors women that support the Advancement of Women and to be advocacy spoke person for equality for women, says the late Founder Annette Van-Howe.
Dr. Velez has held positions in national, state and local boards, Life Member of The National Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Inc., Broward County Chapter United Nations Association of The USA, United Nations Foundation and Broward County Business and Professional Women’s Network. Blanca, Cuban born, was educated, in Jamaica and the West Indies, and on her return to Cuba she migrated to the USA where she completed her education in New York.
She attended the State University, receiving her BS and MS Degrees and Doctorate at the National Institute Cos., Washington D.C. She has traveled to many countries, working closely with our Advocacy Chair Person. We traveled to Washington D.C. annually to meet with our Congress and Senators to discuss U.N. financial positions. When asked if this means you will retire, I am both honored and humbled as love and service go together. I am involved in both as a mother of two children, 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. I am blessed so I will continue to serve with God’s help.
