The Booker T. Washington Class of 1957 Foundation, Inc. (the Foundation”) announced its 2013 scholarship and grants at the historic Booker T. Washington Senior High School during the school’s recent Annual Scholarship Awards Program. The Foundation named two new $1,500 scholarship recipients and announced both a $1,000 academic program and a $500 Teacher of the Year grant.

The Foundation’s James and Elsa Hunt $1,500 scholarship was awarded to India Williams, a Wynwood resident, who will attend the University of Florida to pursue a pre-pharmacy curriculum.

The Foundation’s Dade County Federal Union $1,500 scholarship was awarded to Tytiana Haynes, as Overtown resident, who will attend Miami Dade College in pursuit of a degree in business management.

William Aristide, BTW Principal, revealed that the Foundation’s $1,000 grant”… will be used for Accelerated Reader Enhancement, Saturday Academy tutoring, and the overall improvement of literacy at school.”

Ashawnte’ Smathers-West, the BTW Teacher of the Year, noted that the Foundation’s $500 grant will be used”… to purchase grammar books for my creative writing classes.”

These announcements by the Foundation mark the tenth consecutive year that the Foundation has exclusively supported Booker T. Washington Senior High School with scholarships for graduating seniors and grants for academic pro-grams at the school.
