“I got started in the African American community. I got involved in the Civil Rights Movement when I was a kid. I helped desegregate a movie theater, that kind of thing,” Biden noted. “I was the only guy who worked in the projects on the East East Side who was White. That’s how I got started, and the Black community is the community that, as we say, brung me to the dance. That’s how I got elected.”

For communities of color, the concern is understandably palpable because of the historical disparities in health conditions and diseases.
“Destination Sistrunk is positioned as a gateway to Black culture and heritage throughout Broward County and is comprised of a welcome center, programs, signature events, and the destinationsistrunk.com website. It was piloted by Broward Cultural Division from 2015-2018. In 2019, Broward Cultural Division worked with local partners to establish and incubate the Destination Sistrunk Cultural and Community Investment Partnership, Inc. (Destination Sistrunk Partnership), a nonprofit organization that will grow to implement Destination Sistrunk independently.”
Perhaps as sincere and open as any other candidate, former Vice President Joseph Biden spoke candidly to the Black Press during an interview in South Carolina with National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) President and CEO Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr.
“Today we mourn the loss of an American hero and a pioneer for women and African Americans in STEM fields. Katherine Johnson played a pivotal role in the outcome of the space race during her 35-year career at NASA and its predecessor, NACA. Without her accomplishments and those of her fellow Hidden Figures, which went largely unrecognized until the last decade, the outcome of the Space Race may have been quite different. Her achievements and impacts on our country are great, and her loss will be felt by many. I send my heartfelt condolences to her loved ones and colleagues,” NASA said in a statement.
For some time, concerns about Parchman have rankled inmates, family members, and others, including hip-hop superstar Jay-Z who is suing the state demanding better conditions at the prison. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and others, have lobbied for officials to shut down the controversial prison. The conditions at Parchman, which once was a plantation that contained hundreds of slaves, were highlighted in January when cell phone video made its way to the internet displaying a cache of problems.
It was a night of reflection, celebration, and renewed dedication to improving the lives of Blacks in Broward County in a number of areas as outlined in the Broward Black Action Plan which included EMPLOYMENT, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT/BLACK BUSINESS GROWTH, CRIMINAL JUSTICE, POLITICS, HOUSING, HEALTH, EDUCATION, AND TRANSPORTATION.
Then New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg with then President Barack Obama. Bloomberg, who has yet to directly compete in a Democratic primary or caucus, is courting Black voters through advertisements and private meetings – including a $3.5 million ad buy in the Black Press.
