     “Artful Minds – In Your Own Voice” focuses on the integration of art as a beneficial way of coping and healing for folks living with mental illness. This year’s event featured considerable talent in poetry, spoken word, music, mosaics and other multi-media art. The exhibit put on by NAMI Broward County was held at the Mad Artz gallery in Dania Beach.      The St. Thomas University Benjamin L. Crump College of Law is benefiting from restaurant chain Denny’s $3.3 million pledge to support 14 institutions across the country with its new Nationwide Community Alliance. Besides St. Thomas University (STU), other beneficiaries include the NAACP and National Urban League, as well as the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, League of Latin American Citizens, National Action Network, and U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute, among others. 

     Below are several strategies to help grow Black homeownership in the U.S.: Federal Student loan forgiveness for purchasing a home.  African Americans are disproportionately impacted by student loan debt forcing many to forgo homeownership. A program that addresses this disparity and forgives student loan debt would help many Black Americans achieve their homeownership dreams.

    Motown is as homogenous as “Ice Cream and Apple Pie.” If you haven’t heard a Motown song you like, then you just haven’t heard the right song. That affection placed Berry Gordy’s record label as the vanguard musical advent for the Civil Rights movement. We all learned in school the story of how an $800 loan turned into a global passion for Soul music. What schools do not teach is the impact Motown had on the Civil Rights movement. 

On May 28th the Local American Legion Post 220 standing in the front of the new building on Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The new is scheduled to open in August 2024.

On Wednesday May 29th, a group of loyal supporters gathered at Handy Inc. to celebrate as Kirk Brown, CEO of Handy Inc. received a check for $920,000 from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Reentry Employment Opportunities program. U.S. Representative, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee and the House of Representatives, presented the check.
