For the third consecutive year, Parkridge Elementary in Deerfield, partnered with  community leaders and stakeholders to sponsor a literacy program centered around reading, perhaps the most important, significant and impactful element in early childhood education. “Real Men Read “ is a collaborative initiative promulgated by the visionary, astute leadership of Parkridge Elementary principal , Mrs. Samantha Whitehead, her administrative staff and the devoted, dedicated Parkridge teachers.

With a rich history and significance in Fort Lauderdale, it was wonderful to see the community coming together to celebrate the museum’s centennial milestone. The proclamation of Old Dillard Museum Days is a great way to honor its importance as a landmark and its contribution to the education and empowerment of black children in the area. The event received support from local leaders like Commissioner Beasley-Pittman with the involvement of the City of Fort Lauderdale Parks & Recreation and Broward County Government. Let’s keep celebrating and preserving this valuable piece of history!

With tensions rising and unfortunate news all around us, there is a glimmer of hope for our local community with the naming of Dr. Tomara Mays as the recipient of the 2024 Tikkun Olam Award. The award, given by both Palm Beach Atlantic University and the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, not only celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, but honors individuals who embody the universal Jewish values of Chesed (kindness), Tzedakah (justice), and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). This recognition is a true testament to Dr. Mays commitment to championing initiatives that create meaningful change for our community’s most vulnerable populations.

Broward Board of County Commissioners, in partnership with the Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD), are establishing a Small Business Micro-Grant Pilot Program to provide working capital for small businesses located within Broward County. Micro-Grants of $2,500 will be available to small businesses and distributed evenly throughout all commission districts on a first come, first served basis. Online applications must be submitted with all required documentation at the time of application completion (partial applications will not be considered).
