Miami Dade College (MDC) and longtime collaborator and supporter Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced an $800,000 investment in scholarships for Black students to facilitate the completion of baccalaureate degrees in the technology field. The funds from FPL will be used to cover tuition, fees, books and transportation costs for eligible Black students facing a financial need over the next 4 years. This support will allow students to focus on their education, accelerating completion and entry into the tech workforce. Additionally, the Miami Dade College Foundation will create an endowed fund to allow for the sustainability of the program, providing scholarships in perpetuity. This development comes as Tech Equity Miami is officially launched to celebrate a $100 million investment in tech in Miami and with MDC as the educational partner.

     Johnson’s portrait is part of a traveling exhibit of Florida legal history project titled “Path to Unity.” It’s an illustration of the Florida Bar’s break from segregation to becoming a multi-cultural organization that makes inclusion part of its daily operation. The exhibit is simply titled “Legends.”

Funding Arts Broward (FAB), a nonprofit organization committed to preserving and cultivating the arts in Broward County, has rescheduled its fifth annual “Black & White: A Night at The Museum” special event to Monday, April 25, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. This elegant Black and white themed cocktail party at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, open to the public, will feature an exclusive exhibit tour, live entertainment by Dillard High School Center for the Arts students, light bites, and a decadent dessert table.

Pompano Beach Cultural Center is delighted to present the inaugural Unity Concert featuring The Girl Choir of South Florida and the Florida Singing Sons. Both organizations will feature their most advanced ensembles, separately and in collaboration, performing a varied program consisting of classic favorites, as well as more modern repertoire. Florida A&M University Developmental Research School (FAMU DRS), the K-12 school district established by Florida A&M University, is hosting a teacher recruitment fair on Saturday, April 23. The event will be held in person from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in DRS’ gymnasium.

After federal health regulators declared that a bigger number of patients will be able to receive fourth doses of the two messenger RNA Covid-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, more people will be able to have second Covid-19 booster shots. Adults 50 and older who have had three previous mRNA doses are eligible for a second booster if it has been at least four months since the first. Four months after their previous booster, anyone who had two doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccination can receive an extra mRNA dose.
