The payoff may be years away, but Florida stakeholders are already coordinating efforts to make sure the state gets its share of BP oil spill compensation in what could be the largest Gulf restoration effort in history.

An audit of the state office charged with administering grants meant to encourage energy efficiency and alternative fuels turned up nearly $3 million in potential fraud along with other financial mismanagement, according to a report issued Tuesday by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
