The Friends of the Broward County African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) is thrilled to invite the community to attend its tenth anniversary, “Jump Jivin’ Gala” on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012.

The attire is after five with a flair of the ‘40s. The 40’s theme was adopted from a year-long exhibit in the library’s gallery, “Fabulous 40s on the Avenue”. The gala will raise funds for future programs and activities in the library.

The Friends of the library want to ensure that AARLCC has the funds not only to continue its unique mission, but also to expand its outreach and programs nationally and internationally.

Janice Henry, president of Friends of AARLCC, stated that “AARLCC has a vital role to play in our community’s future, and only with private support can we continue to provide the programming that will transform the vibrant intellectual potential of our children into reality.”

Co-chairs of the event are Barbara Jones and Sam Morrison. Honorary chairs are Gale Butler, Auto Nation and Pat Dumont, and the Gala Committee Chairs include Joe Ann Fletcher, Janice Henry, president, Rose Merritt, Marvia Simmons, Karen Smalls, Edith-Gooden Thompson and Barbara Sutton Williams, along with other Friends of the library. This event is expected to be an entertaining and fun filled event that you do not want to miss.

The festivities include Calvin Hughes, news anchor on WPLG Local 10, Master of Ceremony, a sit-down dinner and dancing with music by BNS Entertainment and the Nat King Cole Tribute Artist, Darrell Cole, who has captured the looks and sounds of Nat King Cole exquisitely. The event will start at 6:30, with a reception at AARLCC and dinner at 8 p.m. at the neighboring Urban League, which is a short stroll next door. The AARLCC is located at 2650 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

Tickets are available in the library’s gift shop or at FabulousFortiesontheAvenueGala.eventbrite.com.

Sponsors for this event include JM Family Enterprises, Inc., AutoNation, Publix Super Markets Charities, Nova Southeastern University, Mike D. Payne, Gold Coast Fort Lauderdale, Broward County Sheriff’s Office, State Farm Alexis Harris Ins. Agency, Inc., Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Urban League of Broward County, and Milton Jones Development Corporation. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
