     Over the past few years, we’ve all become painfully aware of the Far Right’s attacks on trans people, often centered around the right to use the restroom. So-called “bathroom bills” have popped up in a number of states, including right now in Arkansas. These bills are obvious attempts by the Far Right to attack an already marginalized group and score some culture war points with the most hateful members of their base. And the tactic isn’t even new.

  The truth about slavery days is not the only history that politicians desire to negate. They don’t want the facts about Native American genocide, Asian American incarceration or America’s roles in worldwide colonialism to be taught in schools either.

    Republicans chose to play Russian Roulette with raising America’s budget deficit. It’s as though they can’t wait to kill the economy. Just in case any of you’ve forgotten, the game of Russian roulette is a high stakes game for gamblers.  One could call it a game of life or death.

Will Gov. DeSantis Support Black History Month for Black Floridians?

     After being driven past the White hospital during two previous labors, my Mom was determined to force change. She purposefully waited until her contractions were advanced and called the ambulance, which seeing her state, took her to the nearest hospital, the White hospital. When the White nurses tried to refuse service, the examining doctor said it was too late and ordered, “We got to deliver this baby.” Thus, my Mom defied the “Whites Only” designation and ultimately won as she gave birth to me, the first Black to force the integration of the now closed Seaside Hospital in Long Beach, California. 

     Two things happened last week — one public, the other personal — that made me reflect on how far we’ve come as a nation, how we got here, and what it will take to keep that journey moving forward.

   America’s once favorite folktale, “Henny-Penny and the Sky Is Falling,” has now been  replaced by, “Trump and Biden, Secret Documents Are Falling  From the Sky. We’ve known for an exceptionally long time that Henny-Penny was an idiot. But to have former president Trump alleged that someone else, maybe the Tooth Fairy, placed those secret  documents at his Mar-a-Lago Estate boarders on insanity. If Trump keep this line of lies going, Florida’s governor  will have Henny-Penny jailed.

    Never hate the brothers and sisters that can help you. I try to help everyone I can help. Give Black people a chance, an opportunity to help you. If they don’t help your business, fire them.
