Community holds vigil for slain Morehouse College student

Friends and family gathered on Saturday to hold a vigil where a slain Morehouse graduate was gunned down just days earlier.
Joe Gibb sat at his commencement, beaming with pride, as President Obama spoke to the graduating class only weeks ago. At that moment of new beginnings, no one knew that Gibb’s life would soon come to a violent end. Now his friends and family are doing all they can to bring the person or per-sons who took his life to justice.
It all began on Thursday afternoon when police responded to a report of a car crash. Inside the car they found Gibb dead behind the wheel with several gunshot wounds.
Kurel Ocasi, a friend of Gibb who was also injured in the shooting, was at the vigil.
“He told me I’d be his little brother for life. He started making music with me. We did everything, and I just miss my brother,” said Ocasio.
“I really thank everybody for coming out today because I know they’re doing stuff for him back home, but it was really important for us to do something for him here. Because this is where we knew him,” friend Rachel Maye told the gathering.
In a statement, Morehouse President John Silvanus Wilson, Jr. said, “Under any circumstance, the loss of a young life is difficult to accept. But tragedies such as this demand that more be done to ensure the safety of our students.”
Police believe Gibb’s death may have been a targeted killing.
