Congresswoman Frederica Wilson celebrates Women’s History Month

MIAMI, FL – Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24) joins millions of Americans to commemorate Women’s History Month, which has been celebrated since 1987. Congresswoman Wilson issued the following statement:

“This month we celebrate and recognize women around the country—from our stay-at-home moms, to our teachers, entrepreneurs, community activists, doctors, lawyers, CEO’s and elected officials.

We celebrate the pioneers and visionaries who changed the course of history, who fought so that our voices would be heard and that we would be able to take our rightful seat at the table.”

A record number of women are now serving in Congress, with 20 women serving in the Senate and 81 women serving in the House.

But as we celebrate the enormous gains and progress women have made, we should remain vigilant of threats to the great ideal of gender equity.  Cuts to vital healthcare, education, and small business services under the Republican Party’s ‘sequester’ threaten women’s lives and livelihoods. As a Member of Congress, I pledge to protect the tremendous gains women have made by fighting for access to healthcare, good schools, adequate nutrition, and quality jobs for women and girls.”
