Courtney Pettiford selected for study abroad program
Submitted by Pamela Merritt
Courtney Pettiford, a pre-law honor student of the University of Central Florida (UCF), spent her summer pursuing one of her most revered academic desires.
She traveled to Madrid, Spain, and attended the University of Alcala de Henares, where she took two rigorous college courses to enhance her Spanish language and cultural skills. While residing with a local family, Pettiford gained first-hand practical knowledge of the cultures of Spanish people. She feels that a bilingual approach to learning is necessary for a successful future in our multicultural world, and especially in South Florida.
Pettiford, a third year student at UCF, was selected by the college for this prestigious study abroad program. She has maintained honor roll status during her three years at UCF. This fall, Pettiford will be inducted into a third honor society, The Golden Key Honor Society.
Pettiford is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Pi Psi Chapter (UCF). In the future she plans to pursue a career as a Sports and Entertainment attorney. Pettiford is the daughter of Pamela Merritt, M.D., sister to Cierra (honor student at St. Thomas Aquinas High School), and granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gordon A. Merritt.
