FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Delta Education and Life Development Foundation, Inc. (DELDF) announced today the launch of their first-ever DECADES EN ROUGE… “A Timeless Legacy of Dedication and Service” VIRTUAL TELETHON!  This epic event is in partnership with Broward County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (BCAC-DST), celebrating sixty- five (65) years of public service in the Broward County, Florida community. The event has, thus far, garnered celebrities such as Howard Hewett, Michel’le, Old Skool Gang with Paul Lewis, formerly of KC and The Sunshine Band, and their very own April RaQuel.  This eight-hour special will stream online with national exposure on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 12 to 8 p.m. Hosts to include radio talent, Tamara Gant, author and comedian, Terri Crook and gregarious Geneva Warner, all Sisters of DST. Watch as we breakdown DECADES of public service related to our 5-Point Programmatic Thrust: Education, Economic development, Political Awareness, Mental and Physical Health and International Awareness.

This first-ever virtual fundraising event is a can’t-miss afternoon of “Good Works” with special appearances by HBCU and other University Presidents, prominent local dignitaries and other friends of the organizations displaying talents in the areas of poetry, music, dance and comedy. Also, the day will highlight a very special production of our Annual Debutante Cotillion, the beautiful “DAZZLING DIAMONDS”, high school graduating seniors, as they are officially presented to the community. What a day! The dynamics of this fun-filled and informational day aims to drive awareness of DELDF and BCAC-DST, organizations whose mission epitomize public service and provide financial support for exemplary voluntary program initiatives. This Telethon will help us continue to embrace and transform the lives of children, ages five to adolescence, as well as give viewers a look at the work of both organizations through exclusive profiles promoted through scholarships, sisterhood, service, and social action.

“This is an incredible opportunity to bring the works of the Broward County Alumnae Chapter and DELDF forward. I am honored to collaborate with DELDF to educate the public about the need to support deserving youth with scholarships because their success matters, and we are all in this together,” said Tracy Barnswell. “We are excited to host an incredible event for two critically important causes that are in urgent need of funding and hope.” Donations to the Foundation help support outreach of our program initiatives and maintain/expand  our community involvement.

For the past four years, the Foundation successes allowed BCAC-DST to continue its quest of improved educational, cultural, and socially enriching activities designed to uplift those served.  These impactful public service programs reached over 3,000 children throughout Broward County.  Such planned programs included need-based scholarships to graduating high school seniors. From 2017-2020, the Foundation awarded over $185,350 in scholarships to eighty-two (82) students.  Also, other critical focus are program initiatives to include literacy amongst youth, with parental involvement, mentoring adolescence girls, empowering young males to build opportunities for developing independence, STEM and providing college and university tours to high school students that expose them to college life, ultimately, to encourage their pursuit of a higher education.

This EPIC event DECADES EN ROUGE… “A Timeless Legacy of Dedication and ServiceVIRTUAL TELETHON, is an incredible foundation designed to provide help and hope for BCAC-DST and the communities we serve,” said DELDF Chairperson, Deetra Durham.  “This virtual telethon will be instrumental in raising awareness and funding linked directly to children and adolescence in the community to advance their mental, social and educational development. “DELDF National Ambassador, I am excited to be a part of this historic, innovative and entertaining event, alongside Tracy Barnswell, BCAC-DST President”.
